GETTING TO THE LINE, THE LINE OF ARCHITECTURE (not its meaning).

"it is therefore as if what we call language could have been in Its origin and in its end only a moment, an essential but determined mode, a phenomenon ... And it now seems to be approaching what is really its own exhaustion; under the circumstances and this is no more than one example among others·of this death of the civilization of the book, of which so much is said and which manifests itself particularly through a convulsive proliferation of libraries ...  Of "Grammatology . Jacques Derrida

THE ORIGINS OF THE PROJECT BEGIN BY ESTABLISHING A PROBLEM.

This problem consists in comparing and tracing / forcing a relationship between the fragile constitution of the diagrammatic line of architectural drawing and opposing it against the solidity of the logos, the symbol, the text in this manner the intention is to deformate the solid sign into what can become a drawing of architecture, (or of building), in this way neutralizing the difference between a code of language (and of knowledge for that matter, in the traditional sense), and a code of technically oriented, diagrammatic inscription / record.

It is after repeated transfers and the various impressions of the deformed text that we finally; arrive at a transparent image from which derive an architectonic model. What ultimately saves the process from becoming representation is an instrumentality for the transferring of the expressions in between the numerous stages that the process delineates. Not engaging the body's organs in the production of those expressions, except through the intrusion of the instrument, makes for a process that is divided into stages, where the different expressions of what originally was a text reappear, showing us the deformation of that some text an finally its transformation into an image of architecture.

Although the image (and thus the model) depicts a fluidity (this is extermally), internally the process is Inverted, as it was explained, inside this process is seen disjuncted between stages of expressions, and not as a single expression. This disjunction reminds us of the composition of Piranesi's Campo Mario, where the scheme is filled with disconnections between the buildings, these being detached from one another, yet here the detachment is not compositional/graphic (external to the process), but inside the actual process, inside the mechanism which produced it. This disconnections are brought inside the process of creating the image, it's the process itself which is a disconcertion. If having the disconnections inside of the process itself ultimately erases traditional distinctions between representations and conceptualization (concept and expression of concept etc ...) traditionally encountered.
Program

As new technologies emerge the institution of the library tends to become obsolete in its traditional form.  This condition due to the advance in information technology, has given us the opportunity of invisioning a transformed institution.   The library has lost its place and its power as a sign.

The new library is in the city as an open field of spatial experiences that is grafted to the tissue of the urban form.  Its program has change in order to operate in the environment of the post-modern era.

The new library is divided into five spatial agglomerations:

1.- The tactile library
Here, experience is based solely on the tactile functions of the body. This is were the arts and experiences are directed toward the senses.  This library contains  exhibition spaces, art work shops and music halls. These activities are linked with the natural environment of the site to create and interaction between the library and nature.

2.- The Image library
The images in this space form the collective visual knowledge of ourselves and the complex world that we live in.  These spaces have interactive screens which change and produce images .  Video and information sources are displayed 24 hours a day.

3.-  The knowledge library
This space deals with the sciences and begins to form an intelectual  base  for the individuals who use it. Inside there are laboratories and special condition rooms for controlled studies.

4.- The remebrance library
One of the most important spaces that deal with the history of our civilization. It is meant to preserve and collect our built memories. This library is a translucent space that envolves the existing buildings  to create an enviroment that uses the past to look into the future.
